Tributes paid as popular Detective Garda in Tipperary retires after 30 years' service

A proud Wexford man, Detective Garda John Kelly has dedicated 30 years to the District and people of Thurles, since joining in September 1995.

On Friday, October 10 a distinguished career in An Garda Síochána came to an end with the retirement of Detective Garda John Kennedy from the force.

A proud Wexford man, he has dedicated 30 years to the District and people of Thurles, since joining in September 1995.

He served first on the Regular Unit, then with the Traffic Unit, and spent over 20 years attached to the Detective Unit.

Gardaí in Tipperary said: "We thank John and wish him and his family many years of health and happiness in his retirement."
