In Roscommon, 5,217 crimes were reported to 145 Gardaí, giving them 36 cases each to handle

A new survey by Galway-based estate agent and auctioneer Long & Co. has found that Roscommon is Ireland’s safest county in which to raise a family.

The research also revealed several other startling statistics, one of which include the Tipperary village of Templederry.

Long & Co. discovered that between September 1 2020 - September 1 2025, a staggering 314,124 ‘theft and related offences’ were reported throughout Ireland.

Gardaí at Store Street Station, Dublin, were Ireland’s busiest as they handled 43,731 reported crimes.

With a population of 220,826, there are 699 people per Garda in Meath, while in Leitrim there are 352 people per Garda.

In Cavan, a total of 21,955 crimes were reported to the 176 Gardaí, giving them a hefty workload of 125 cases each. In Roscommon, 5,217 crimes were reported to 145 Gardaí, giving them 36 cases each to handle.

In the case of Tipperary, Long & Co. found that just eight crimes were committed in the village of Templederry across those five years.

However, despite less than two crimes being committed per calendar year on average in the Tipperary village, the Premier County ranked outside the Top 10 of the Long & Co. study for county-wide safety.

Tipperary has been placed 13th, behind the likes of nearby neighbours Kilkenny, Offaly, and Clare.
