Back of the net- Tipperary soccer team wins regional sports club award

Powerstown FC were delighted to receive the award from Tipperary senior hurling manager Liam Cahill at the awards ceremony in the Talbot Hotel Clonmel

Clonmel-based Powerstown Football Club beat 11 other clubs from all over the south-east of Ireland to claim a regional sports club of the year award.

“We were shocked but delighted to win this award,” said player/coach Nicholas Ryan.

“This award is testament to the hard work, dedication and enthusiasm of everyone involved with the club’s progress to date”. He singled out James Brennan, Brian Quirke and Seamus O’Brien for praise for their efforts since establishing the club in 2020.

The award was presented by Tipperary senior hurling manager Liam Cahill at the awards ceremony in the Talbot Hotel in Clonmel. It came with a bursary, which was sponsored by Eco Solar Energy.

Powerstown FC, who play in Division 1 of the TSDL (Tipperary Southern and District League) and play their home games in Redmondstown, can now plan to achieve a long-term goal.

“We hope to use these funds to upgrade our facilities in Redmondstown so that we can enter a Youth team next season. We have always wanted to do this for our club and community, so realising it is exciting,” said Ryan.
