New glamping accommodation could soon be available in Tipperary if Tipperary County Council approves a recently submitted planning application.

The proposal seeks permission to develop a site at Knockballiniry, Ardfinnan, which would include three glamping pods. The plans also encompass an amenity area with shower and drying facilities attached to an existing agricultural building, three parking spaces, bicycle parking, and a revised entrance.
The development has received support from Knockmealdown Active, a cross-community initiative dedicated to promoting the Knockmealdown Mountains and their recreational offerings. The group highlighted the shortage of tourist accommodation in the area and noted that visitors attending events such as the St Declan’s Way Walk often have to book lodging in towns as distant as Dungarvan. The proposed pods, located near the new trailhead in Knockballiniry, are expected to encourage longer stays and benefit local businesses.
The Knockmealdown Mountains are known for their walking trails, including the annual St Declan’s Way Walk, as well as a series of looped walks suitable for all levels.
A decision on the application is expected from Tipperary County Council by November 18.
