The former military chapel at Kickham Barracks, Clonmel
A grant of €34,353, with match funding by Tipperary County Council, has been provided to upgrade the old Military Chapel at Kickham Barracks in Clonmel.
The work will include the installation of accessible toilets to include baby-changing facilities; the repair and upgrading of windows to facilitate the heating, security and comfort of the venue; and upgrading and painting works.
The tenders have gone out for the construction works to the toilet in the chapel. These are due back into Clonmel Borough District in the coming weeks.
In her report to a meeting of the Borough District, District Administrator Carol Creighton said that the funding had been provided by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.

She also stated that the Borough District had applied for funding to restore or revitalise the remaining vacant or derelict heritage buildings within the Kickham Barracks grounds.
This includes structural works to the chapel; the café building to be restored as a café; and the munitions buildings to be restored as a District Heating Centre for connection to all buildings within the Kickham Barracks site.

The application had been made under the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme for funding worth €7 million.
The District Administrator also reported that Thrive Strand 2 funding application for Clonmel, in relation to the former Kickham Barracks, was unfortunately unsuccessful this time with the Southern Regional Assembly.
A review meeting has been requested by Clonmel Borough District to meet with the Southern Assembly in early November to go through where the application may have been unsuccessful
Carol Creighton said she hoped that the application would be considered in any additional funding that becomes available for this project at Kickham Barracks into the future.
