A 68-year-old New Inn man's appeal of the four month prison term imposed on him for failing to remove his log cabin home built without planning permission, was adjourned at Clonmel Circuit Court today (Tuesday, November 4).

Sean Meehan of Woodinstown, Cahir was in court this morning with family members and supporters for the brief hearing that lasted just over two minutes.

Independent TD Mattie McGrath, Independent Cllr Niall Dennehy and Labour Cllr Michael 'Chicken' Brennan were among those who accompanied the pensioner in the courtroom for the call over of the District Court appeals list of cases.

Mr Meehan is appealing the four month jail term along with €9,941.96 legal and administrative costs imposed on him by Judge Brian O'Shea at Cashel District Court on March 6. He received the sentence for failing to comply with a planning enforcement notice served on him by Tipperary County Council on June 3, 2022 directing he remove his log cabin home at Woodinstown, Cahir.

The prison sentence has been on hold pending the outcome of the appeal.

At this morning's hearing, defence barrister Suzanne Gorey BL informed Judge James O'Donohoe there was consent for Mr Meehan's case to be adjourned as there was a connected judicial review case listed for January.

She was referring to the High Court challenge Mr Meehan is also taking as part of his campaign to save his log cabin home.

Tipperary County Council solicitor Finbarr Tobin agreed there was consent for the case to be adjourned in view of the High Court case in Dublin in January.
