Yesterday the Department of Community and Rural Development announced major funding will be given to resurface a path in a picturesque part of Tipperary.

Independent Cllr Máirín McGrath commented on the news and said that she welcomed confirmation of funding of €153,000 from the Department of Community and Rural Development for the resurfacing and improvement of the Bay Lough pathway at the Vee.

Speaking following the announcement, Cllr McGrath said: “I am delighted to confirm this significant investment in one of our most popular local amenities.

"The 1km pathway leading down to Bay Lough is a much-loved route for both locals and visitors, and this funding will allow for much-needed resurfacing and drainage works to enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience.”

Cllr McGrath acknowledged the collaboration involved in securing the funding: “I was very pleased to work alongside the engineering staff of Tipperary County Council in preparing this application under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Fund earlier this year.

"I also wish to thank Knockmealdown Active, the Grubb Family for their ongoing support and engagement, and Deputy Mattie McGrath for making representations to Minister Calleary on behalf of this project.”

The works will include substantial drainage improvements and the complete resurfacing and sealing of the pathway, ensuring a more durable and user-friendly surface for everyone who comes to enjoy the natural beauty of the Vee, both from near and far.
