The remarkable story of Mary (Molly) Fleming, a Cappawhite native who was awarded the George Medal for her extraordinary courage during World War II, will be brought to life at a special event in her home parish later this month.
John Coman will present an illustrated talk on Molly’s inspiring life on Wednesday, November 19 at 8pm in Ayle School, Cappawhite. The event is free to attend, and all are welcome. Tea and refreshments will be served afterwards.
Molly Fleming’s bravery earned her one of Britain’s highest civilian honours, the George Medal, awarded for acts of great heroism and courage in the face of danger. Her story stands as a powerful testament to compassion, duty and courage under fire — and remains one of the lesser-known chapters of Tipperary’s proud history.

The talk is hosted in association with the Tipperary Historical Society, which continues to highlight the contributions of local people to national and international history.
