The audience were in fits of laughter as he recounted his favourite piece from his hit TV series Naked Camera.

“It was a different world then, doing a hidden camera show 20 years ago was different because nobody had a camera in their pocket. Like now, something strange happens, and people look for the camera straight away, back then, if something strange happened, people just thought ‘oh okay, I’m stuck with a d**khead’,” he said.

“The one I liked the most was one that didn’t work for us, your man wouldn’t sign the release, it wasn’t even me, it was Patrick. We went up to him in the zoo, and says ‘you’ve to get out, you’re after upsetting the gorilla,’ and he’s there with his granddaughter like ‘what’re you talking about?’ ‘Yeah, yeah, the gorilla’s crying and went ‘you’ and did the finger’,’ and he goes ‘I didn’t do anything,’ and we’re like ‘you did,’ and he goes ‘that gorilla’s a f***ing liar!’ and we were like ‘aw, that’s the best line ever’.”

“Then we told him it was a joke and he went ‘you’re all s***e!’ But it was lost, he wouldn’t let us put it on.”

Gallagher also spoke of the famous Naked Camera clip featuring George Hook, in which he plays a taxi driver who deliberately takes Hook in the wrong direction.

“We did him dirty though, we had him so wound up before he got in the car. We told him he had to get to the radio station, there was a minister there, he’d lose his job, and he keeps saying ‘I’m going to lose my job!’ so we did him dirty in fairness to him, he was good.”
