The Optimist, often called the “Opti,” is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy used by children up to the age of 15. It is one of the most popular boats for introducing young people to the sport.
Challenging weather greeted the competitors, with strong winds on Saturday testing their skills and determination. Despite the conditions, the sailors continued to train and race across structured groups, each designed to develop specific skills under the guidance of experienced coaches.
The event included several fleets, ranging from the Racing Regatta to the Junior Main Fleet, also known as the Development Squad, and the Senior Main Fleet, referred to as the Senior Development Squad. These categories ensured that each sailor could compete and learn at an appropriate level.
Beyond racing, the regatta offered a chance for young sailors to reconnect with friends from sailing clubs across Ireland. The week concluded on a lighter note with a Halloween-themed party, bringing a festive close.
