Tipperary Family Carers manager welcomes survey that shows the true extent of family carers

Healthy Ireland Survey 2025 report welcomed

Family Carers Ireland has welcomed the publication of the Healthy Ireland Survey 2025 Summary Report which shines a light on the extent of family caring in Ireland.
The manager of the Family Carers Clonmel branch Richie Molloy has welcomed the publication of the report and said it illustrates the level of family caring in the country.
It finds that 14% of the population aged 15 and older provide regular care to a loved-one - up from 9% in 2015 and significantly higher than the 6% recorded in Census 2022 (which relates to the entire population), with interviewers providing additional context on caring to respondents.
Notable findings include women (17%) are more likely than men (11%) to say they are carers, 24% of carers say they provide around the clock care for someone they live with, 18% say they care for multiple people, 21% say they rarely (12%) or never (9%) get adequate breaks, while women carers aged 35-54 report poorer quality sleep, with 52% reporting good/very good sleep compared to 61% generally among that cohort.
