the town of Cahir markekd Remembrance Sunday
The Cahir Social & Historical Society marked Remembrance Sunday with a well-attended ceremony on last Sunday, a fine November morning.
This year's guest of honour was Susan O'Mahony(née Farrell) who was remembering her grand-uncle, James Brabston, Ballindoney, Grange, who was killed on the February 14,1915, at Ypres in Flanders. James had "joined up" with his first cousin, Michael, also from Ballindoney, but only Michael came home.

Susan described how moving it was to visit James's grave in 2019 and how peaceful the setting was and it was the first time a family member visited the grave and over a 100 years later.
The Society also remembered the late Arthur Carter, Barnora, Cahir who was a stalwart of the Remembrance Sunday ceremony, and also the late Paddy Walsh of The Square in Cahir who was another regular attendee over the years.
In a brief reflection, the Chairperson of the Society, PJ O'Meara then reminded those in attendance that while a small number of Cahir men were killed during the Second World War that ended 80 years ago, it was the equivalent of six football teams of locals, from a variety of backgrounds that lost their lives in the "Great War".

The ceremony concluded with Susan laying a wreath at the War Memorial, a minute's silence in memory of the dead of all Conflicts and was followed by the great anthem of Remembrance Sunday, "Abide With Me."
