Peter Burke, the Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment
The Government is working intensively with its colleagues in the IDA to market the Ballingarrane science and technology campus in Clonmel, according to Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Minister Peter Burke.
The site was purchased by Tipperary County Council 20 years ago and has been identified as a suitable area for the sustainable development of a strategic business, science and technology campus. It is promoted by Tipperary County Council as having the ability to cater for the full spectrum of development opportunities, ranging from start-ups to spin outs and second stage funded companies, through to the largest multinational organisations.
Speaking on a visit to Clonmel this afternoon, the minister said the work that the Government was doing with the IDA is one of the key areas that is very much the lead site with advance planning permits in the country.

“That should give it a very significant advantage. And with the work that's going on with life sciences in this area, you have that kind of eco system that’s building up of talented employees, and all the work with the potential for housing.
“We’ll do all we can as a government to push our state agencies and also most importantly we’re working on a scheme for the enterprise section, and for those smaller units. We also have to think about the family business starting out, those that don’t have a HR department or a finance department, and they’re working around the kitchen table trying to get their new venture off the ground.

“It would be great if we could get more support for those smaller units as well, that come together with that eco system in those business parks.
During his time in Clonmel, Minister Burke also visited Dowd’s Lane, where plans for a Bulmers visitor centre have been in the pipeline for some time.
“(Deputy) Michael Murphy has briefed me on the project and I will talk to the management there, and hopefully we’ll do all we can to help them.
“What we are going to do to help C&C, which would be very important, is that we have a very strong capital programme next year, on how we expand added value to core businesses like C&C.
“And we’ll do all we can to try and support them to try and build up a base whereby they can attract visitors into the region".
