National Uneven Age and Novice Cross Country Championships
Moyne AC travelled to the National Sports Campus for the climax of the juvenile and novice cross country season and returned with two national silver team medals along with a series of notable performances. Athletes faced some of the harshest conditions of the year with heavy, slippery ground and persistent rolling hills.
The under 11 girls opened the programme. Poppy Shanahan took a strong 21st place and was followed by Quinn Corbett in 54th, Aoibheann Doyle in 105th, Kate O Dwyer in 112th, Fiadh Ryan in 119th and Ella O Donovan in 150th.
The group finished an impressive ninth overall. Poppy and Quinn also featured on the Tipperary team that secured seventh place in the county standings.
In the boys under 13 race, Matthew Esmonde battled through a field of almost 200 to finish 68th. His run contributed to the Tipperary team that placed eighth.
In the girls under 19 event, Alana Spillane delivered one of her standout races of the season. She finished 19th in an exceptionally competitive field and demonstrated considerable resilience in the difficult terrain. Her placing reflects her position among the strongest athletes nationally.
Moyne AC’s novice entrants, Sharon Cantwell and Eileen Ely, once again represented both club and county. The pair worked together over the 4 kilometre course and used their marathon strength to steady effect.
Eileen finished 37th with Sharon close behind in 40th. Both scored on the Tipperary team that captured national silver.
The club extended its thanks to all who travelled to Abbottstown and offered particular appreciation to the coaches who continually give their time to prepare athletes for competition.
An additional note of congratulations was added to the novice report. Poppy also scored on the Munster team that won a bronze medal and Alana Spillane likewise earned a bronze medal after scoring for Munster in the provincial standings.
