Mattie McGrath, who attended the ceremony, expressed his gratitude for those who prepared the church. “Wonderful to be at the blessing of the crib in Newcastle on Monday for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, after Mass,” he wrote on social media. He thanked CE scheme workers, community volunteers, and the parish committee for their efforts in making the church look “lovely.”
The occasion was made even more special by a surprise visit from Fr Nally, who was visiting Newcastle for the first time and performed the blessing of the crib.
The event highlighted the strong sense of community in Newcastle, with residents coming together to celebrate the season and honour a longstanding parish tradition.
