CONGRATS! Tipperary medical graduate honoured with prestigious UCC Gaffney medal

Ballina native recognised for award-winning research

Gearóid Morgan-O’Brien from Ballina, Co. Tipperary, has been awarded the Gaffney Medal at University College Cork (UCC) in recognition of his outstanding final year medical research project.

The prestigious Gaffney Prize is awarded annually to the student who achieves the highest mark in the Anesthesiology section of the mandatory Research Report component of the Final Year Module: Research Project and Elective Practice. Gearóid received the honour for his project titled “Predictive Modelling for ICU Mortality in Traumatic Brain Injury: Insights from a Level 1 Trauma Centre.”

As part of his academic achievements, Gearóid also presented his research at the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine’s 38th Annual Congress, held in Munich last October, showcasing his work to an international audience of medical professionals.

Gearóid graduated from UCC with a first class honours degree in Medicine in July and is currently working at St. James’ Hospital in Dublin
