Major funding boost announced for Cashel, Nenagh and Templemore regeneration projects

Cashel Town Park is set to advance to its next stage following the approval of €300,000 in funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

The allocation will support Phase 2 of the Cashel Town Park project, building on the progress already made and continuing the redevelopment of a key public amenity in the town.

The funding is expected to further strengthen the physical and visual link between the Rock of Cashel and the town centre through Bishop’s Walk, a historic route with growing importance for both residents and visitors.

The second phase of works will focus on enhancing green infrastructure, improving accessibility and connectivity and supporting heritage led regeneration.

Investment will also be directed towards the development of high quality, community focused public spaces designed to increase the park’s role as a central gathering point within the town.

The project at Bishop’s Walk has been viewed as an important element in Cashel’s wider regeneration, with the aim of unlocking the town’s potential while balancing heritage, tourism and everyday community use.

Significant funding allocations have been confirmed for projects in Nenagh and Templemore, alongside further investment across South Tipperary, marking a boost for town centre regeneration and public amenities in the county.

Nenagh is set to receive €500,000 for the redevelopment of the vacant three storey Gaol block. The funding will support renovation works aimed at transforming the historic building into a high quality visitor attraction.

The project is expected to contribute to economic and social regeneration within Nenagh’s Historic and Cultural Quarter and aligns with the objectives set out in the town’s Town Centre First Plan.

Templemore Town Park has also been allocated €112,950 to enhance both biodiversity and the overall visitor experience. Planned works include improvements to the car park, resurfacing of existing pathways, the planting of native hedgerows and the creation of a dedicated picnic area intended to provide a calm and accessible space for families and visitors.

The funding announcements form part of a wider package of investment across Tipperary. Additional allocations have been confirmed for projects in Cashel, which will receive €300,000, along with €50,000 each for Golden and Carrick on Suir.

The investments are intended to support regeneration, improve public spaces and strengthen the attractiveness of towns across both North and South Tipperary for residents and visitors alike.
