Additional works are set to take place at the Glenary Water Treatment Plant in the new year, although Uisce Éireann has said these will not disrupt water supply for customers.

The utility has confirmed the lifting of a boil water notice that had been in place for close to two months, affecting approximately 11,000 homes and businesses in the Clonmel area. The notice had required customers to boil tap water before use as a precautionary public health measure.

The removal of the restriction follows remedial works carried out at the Glenary plant. While further work is planned in the coming year, Uisce Éireann has indicated that this next phase should not have an impact on the quality or continuity of supply.

Attention is now turning to other parts of the county where boil water notices remain in effect. Two separate notices continue to affect a combined total of around 18,000 households and businesses across Tipperary. These are linked to supplies from the Fethard Regional Water Supply and the Ardfinnan Water Supply.

Uisce Éireann said efforts are ongoing to address the issues at both locations, with the aim of lifting the remaining notices once it is safe to do so. No timeframe has been given for their removal.

Commenting on the progress at Glenary, Uisce Éireann’s Fionnuala Callery said the organisation was pleased to be able to lift the boil water notice ahead of the holiday period, despite the fact that additional work will still be required at the plant in the new year.

The utility has thanked affected customers for their patience during the period of disruption and said it will continue to provide updates as work progresses on the remaining water supplies.
