The North Tipperary Community Rail Partnership is delighted to announce the return of its popular annual community trip to Limerick on Ice, taking place over two days this year due to growing demand. The Cloughjordan group will travel on Friday, January 2, while families and groups from Nenagh, Roscrea, and Birdhill will make the journey on Saturday, January 3.

Organiser Cllr Louise Morgan Walsh described the event as “a fantastic community day out, especially for young families who want to experience their first train trip to Limerick on Ice.” She noted that the trip’s increasing popularity has led to the decision to split the event across two days, with Cloughjordan organising its own dedicated outing supported by Elaine Baker of the North Tipperary Community Rail Partnership.

“While Cloughjordan and Nenagh each have their own special day, anyone is welcome to join the fun on either date,” Cllr Morgan Walsh said. “The main requirement is that participants purchase a rail ticket to present at Limerick on Ice on the day they travel.”

A return rail ticket costs €6 from any station along the line, and entry to Limerick on Ice is €15—a significant saving compared to the standard skating prices of €18 for children and €20 for adults.

Cllr Morgan Walsh expressed her gratitude to Irish Rail, Limerick on Ice, and Elaine Baker for their continued support. She added that strong community participation has demonstrated the value of the rail line and contributed to increased passenger numbers.
