Tipp community asked to rally behind young woman seriously injured while on holiday in Vietnam

The family of a 29-year-old woman from Killaloe who sustained serious injuries following a fall while on holiday in Vietnam several weeks ago is appealing for financial support.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Aoife Cahill, who was injured in a fall while rock climbing in the Southeast Asian country.

Aoife spent more than a week in an induced coma but has since regained consciousness and is said to be “showing positive signs,” according to her brother Ruairi, who organised the fundraiser.

The incident has left Aoife’s family and friends in what they described as “unimaginable shock” and facing significant financial pressures.

These include the cost of emergency medical treatment and hospital care, specialist treatment, and the eventual expense of safely bringing Aoife home once she is fit to travel.

Aoife, who had been living in Perth and was holidaying in Vietnam at the time of the accident, is described as a “kind, warm and adventurous” person who brings “so much light to the lives of those around her.”

While an earlier attempt to wake her was unsuccessful, Aoife was brought out of her coma on December 26, answering what her family described as their “biggest prayer.”

In an update on the GoFundMe page, Ruairi thanked donors and well-wishers for the “overwhelming” support and expressed the family’s gratitude for the solidarity shown.

To date, €57,686 has been raised from approximately 1,400 donations, just short of the €60,000 target. All funds will go directly towards Aoife’s immediate care and recovery.
