Tipperary County Council is to kick off 2026 with its first meeting on Monday, January 12, at 10am in the Nenagh Civic Offices. The forty councillors will dive into minutes and management reports, weigh up ten land disposal proposals, and get an inside look at the county's tourism sector through a special presentation.

The Councillors plan to arrange a legal update on the management of several companies owned by the Council. They will also choose a date to hear from Uisce Éireann about the big Shannon-to-Dublin Pipeline water project, which is now awaiting planning approval.
Cllr Mairin McGrath is the only one putting forward a motion directly about Council business. She wants the Council to review the rules for building single rural houses along main regional roads, saying the current rules are too strict and make things difficult for people.
Four more motions go beyond the Council's usual purview. Cllr McGrath and Cllr Mark Fitzgerald want the Government to review the rules for self-catering places to stay, such as glamping sites, to support tourism. Cllr JP O’Meara wants to make it compulsory for people on e-bikes and scooters to wear Hi-Vis jackets to make roads safer.
Cllr Andy Moloney wants to make sure the Divisional Garda Superintendent is always part of the Tipperary Local Community Safety Partnership Committee. Labour councillors want the Council to support the “No Wait Card,” which would help people with long-term or hidden illnesses get quicker access to toilets, and to ask local businesses to join the scheme.
