The Premier County spent €2,483,600 on its county teams last year, an increase of €308,512 on 2024. That rise places Tipperary among the biggest year-on-year spenders nationally and confirms the position at the top of the overall spending table.
Only Galway and Cork spent more in absolute terms, but both of those counties actually reduced their expenditure in 2025. Galway’s spending fell by over €400,000 while Cork cut back by €178,000, making Tipperary the highest-spending county to post a significant increase.
Nationally, total spending across the 32 counties reached a record €45.6 million, up from €43.875m in 2024.
However, the rate of increase has slowed to under 4%, compared to growth of 10.8% the previous year and 16.2% in 2023. Against that backdrop, Tipperary’s 14% rise stands out.
Within Munster, the province recorded the largest overall increase, with spending up by just over €1 million to €12.11m.
Tipperary’s rise accounted for a substantial portion of that growth, alongside increases in Kerry and Limerick. Clare, Cork and Waterford due to the continued success of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship in particular.
It should also be noted that Tipperary’s figure includes the costs associated with extended championship runs at both under-20 and senior level, culminating in All-Ireland titles, as well as a post-season holiday for the senior panel.
Those factors inevitably pushed expenditure higher and provide important context when assessing the scale of the increase.
