Kilkenny assumed pole position in Division 1A of the Centra National Camogie League on Saturday, overcoming Tipperary in Freshford, County Kilkenny, on February 21st.

Home advantage proved decisive. Playing on a soft surface and aided by the strong breeze, the hosts built their victory before the interval.

By half time they had opened an 0-11 to 0-2 lead, a cushion that left their visitors chasing the game thereafter.

Central to that surge was Asha McHardy. Already regarded as one of camogie’s emerging talents, she enhanced that standing with another commanding display, striking 0-6 from play.

Three of those scores arrived in succession late in the first half, a spell that effectively settled the contest and underlined Kilkenny’s authority.

Tipperary stirred in the closing stages. Two Eimear McGrath frees, coming either side of a Róisín Howard point, trimmed the deficit to five with ten minutes remaining.

Yet the revival went no further. Kilkenny held firm against their neighbours, ensuring that the early damage would define the outcome and lift them to the summit of the table.
