Tipperary's Tom Wachman helps Ireland to runner-up finish in Wellington Nations Cup

Ireland were tied for the lead with the home team from the USA on a zero score at the halfway stage

The Irish Showjumping team of Meath's Cian O'Connor, Derry's Jordan Coyle, Tipperary's Tom Wachman and Cork's Shane Sweetnam finished as runners-up in the four-star Nations Cup at Wellington International, Florida, USA on Sunday.

Ireland were tied for the lead with the home team from the USA on a zero score at the halfway stage, after clear rounds from O'Connor riding Ulysses, Wachman aboard Do It Easy and Sweetnam with Rural Junior SCF, while a first round four fault score from Coyle and Chaccolino was the discard.

The second round saw O'Connor complete a double clear performance, while Coyle also jumped clear second time out. However, four fault scores from Wachman and Sweetnam opened the door for the USA, who remained on a zero score to take the home win for the second year in-a-row.
