New Thurles market to showcase local crafts, food and producers every Saturday

New Market 54 aims to revitalise a Tipperary town with weekly artisan market

A new weekly market is due to open in Thurles, in a move expected to support local enterprise and reinvigorate a long established social tradition in the town.

The artisan and craft market will open on Saturday, March 21, from 10am to 2pm, and is intended to become a regular weekend fixture for the community of Thurles.

Michael Lowry TD has welcomed the launch of Market 54 at the Thurles Market Quarter, describing it as a positive development for both business and community life.

Located within the recently developed Thurles Market Quarter, the initiative brings together a broad mix of artisan producers, craftspeople and small businesses.

The aim is to create a focal point where people in the community and surrounding areas can shop locally, meet makers and experience a market atmosphere.

Stalls will feature handcrafted goods, artisan food, local produce and distinctive gift items, reflecting the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that is activity present across Tipperary.

From fresh produce and traditional crafts to speciality foods and pet treats, the market is designed to showcase a wide range of local talent.

Organisers say the concept is rooted in the historic role markets have played in Irish towns. “Markets have always been part of the social fabric of Irish towns, With Market 54 at Thurles Market Quarter, we wanted to bring that spirit back - a place where people can meet friends, discover something new, and support local makers and producers.”

They are also encouraging people to incorporate the market into their weekend routine. “Whether you're coming for a coffee, picking up fresh local products, or just enjoying the atmosphere, the idea is that Saturdays become a social day in Thurles,” they said.

The setting is expected to enhance the appeal. Situated beside the River Suir and within close proximity to the town centre. The Market Quarter includes a purpose built covered marquee, allowing the market to operate comfortably throughout the year through all weather conditions.

Local business groups and community organisations have expressed strong support for the initiative, viewing it as a means of increasing footfall and activity in the town centre.

With additional traders expected and themed market days planned over the coming months, organisers believe Market 54 has the potential to become a key attraction for both locals and visitors.

Market 54 at the Thurles Market Quarter will take place every Saturday from 10am to 2pm, inviting the public to explore artisan stalls, discover local crafts and enjoy a relaxed market atmosphere in Thurles.
