Thurles Musical Society wowed audiences last week as they brought the Premier Hall to life with the bells of Notre Dame.

The society took to the stage from March 24 to 28 with their rendition of the Victor Hugo classic, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’.

With memorable songs from the Disney film, audiences were taken on a journey through medieval Paris, from the grandeur and reverence of Notre Dame to the dangerously exciting bohemian sub-culture.

What better way to mark their 75th anniversary.

The society was delighted to welcome on board their Director and Choreographer Michael Anthony Greene, and ever grateful to welcome back their Musical Director Mary Rose McNally.

They described the production as possibly one of their most ambitious projects yet, and say the stage construction crew under the management of Anthony Kirby had done some amazing work bringing Paris to life in the Premier Hall.

Noel Dundon, TMS Chairperson, noted that: “Productions like this don’t happen without tremendous support, including from our audiences, our sponsors, committee, fundraising team, back stage crew, costumes, props, lighting and sound, rehearsal organisers, to name just a few! We are ever grateful for their continued support.”

The society would like to sincerely thank all their audiences, sponsors, patrons and supporters, without whom they say it would not have been possible to bring such a major production to the stage.

And the 75th year events are not over for TMS just yet, with work set to start soon on their autumn production Come From Away, which will run from September 10 to 12.
