Loosely based on the Greek myth of Medea and set in the bleak, mystical landscape of the Irish Midlands, the play follows Hester Swane, a woman from an Irish travelling family fighting to protect her home and her heart.
After being abandoned by her lover, Carthage Kilbride, who plans to marry a wealthy farmer's daughter for land and status, Hester is pushed to the edge as her personal history and the rigid hierarchies of rural society collide in a story of vengeance and betrayal.
Known for its lyrical language and dark humour, By the Bog of Cats explores profound themes of motherhood, greed, and the ghosts of the past.
This production is staged by the acclaimed Fionn MacCumhaill Players, who continue their tradition of bringing high-quality drama to the Tipperary stage.
The show will take place on Thursday, April 30, at 8pm.
Entry costs €20.
The following day, Emma Doran brings her ‘Emmaculate’ chaos to the Source.
Forget the immaculate conception; we’re talking about the Emmaculate stand-up tour.
Smash-hit comedian, viral sensation, and self-proclaimed expert on “melts,” Emma Doran is officially descending upon the Source Arts Centre on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Fresh from selling over 20,000 tickets for her last tour, and presumably refreshing ticket pages until she felt sick, Doran is back to lay bare the trials of her blended family and the “notions” of modern womanhood.
Known for her razor-sharp takes on everything from the school parents’ WhatsApp group to the invention of the menopause (which she’s convinced only started five years ago), this show is for anyone who knows the highest Irish compliment is being told your house looks “immaculate” while you’re secretly having a breakdown.
The star of LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland and author of the best-selling memoir ‘Mad Isn’t It’ promises a night of conspiratorial gossip and riotous antics that will have Thurles laughing until it hurts.
Emma is a comedian, podcaster, and professional observer of the absurd.
When she isn't selling out venues like Vicar Street, she’s co-hosting the Keep It Tight podcast and trying to figure out why her three children turned out to be “geeks.”
