Council to upgrade footpath in poor condition outside church in county Tipperary town

The footpath outside the Augustinian Abbey Church in Fethard is to be upgraded this year

A section of footpath in poor condition outside the Augustinian Abbey Church in Fethard is to be upgraded this year, a council engineer confirmed at Carrick Municipal District's monthly meeting.

Fine Gael Cllr Mark Fitzgerald and Labour Cllr Michael 'Chicken' Brennan received this confirmation from District Engineer Michael Scully after they highlighted the unsafe condition of the footpath outside the church on Abbey Street at the meeting and called for it to be resurfaced.

Cllr Fitzgerald pointed out that a lot of elderly and vulnerable people use this footpath and also suggested the council also resurface the street, which he described as being in an “awful condition”.

Mr Scully responded that he was aware of the two councillors' representations about this footpath and said the project would be included in the district's 2026 programme of works.
