Congratulations to Maura Ryan, née Bourke, who, on Friday, November 12, last celebrated her ninetieth birthday at the Corner House, Thurles Road, Littleton.
For almost 60 years, Maura has been at the centre of village life, keeping an open house for her many friends, relatives and local villagers who call on a regular basis. One of her favourite sayings is, "It's the chat that keeps us going."
The constant flow of well-wishers from 9am to 9pm was a sign of the huge estimation in which she is held by one and all. She has been actively involved in the ICA and has been generous to many other community groups.
A wonderful supply of food, drink and birthday cakes had been secretly prepared by her many relatives.
It was a lovely family and community occasion for all who called and renewed old friendships.
One of the surprises of the evening was when her nephew Jimmy Leahy with his guitar, appeared via video-link from Melbourne, Australia, to sing with all present a happy birthday.
Other guest singers on the night were well-known local man Toddy Walsh and Caitriona Ryan.We wish Maura, as well as Mary, Thomas and Kathleen, many more years of happiness at the centre of our village community.
