District Administrator Carol Creighton said she hopes that this Christmas in Clonmel will be the best yet

The difficulties that had threatened to downgrade the quality of the Christmas lights in Clonmel's town centre have been resolved.

Carol Creighton, District Administrator of Clonmel Borough District, has stated that in recent weeks a call went out to the business community to get involved and help finance the Christmas lights this year.

"Thankfully we have local companies who know the importance of having the town lit up this Christmas, with the result that we are delighted to announce that we have been successful in securing the necessary funding to have a similar Christmas experience as other years.

"These generous contributions, which supplement the annual Clonmel Borough District financial contribution, now mean that the Clonmel 2022 Christmas lights and activities will go ahead."

Ms Creighton thanked each of the companies that are sponsoring the upcoming events. She extended a massive thank you to the main sponsors, Glas Civil Engineering Ltd, and said the council was most grateful for their extremely generous contribution for 2022.

"This year the team in Clonmel Borough District/Tipperary County Council want to especially thank CEO Michelle Aylward from County Tipperary Chamber of Commerce and Cliona Maher, Clonmel Junction Festival, for coming together with us to look at ways to ensure a wonderful Christmas experience in Clonmel this year.

"Particular thanks also goes out to the main five trading representatives, who have put in intense work each year and who have worked extremely well with us over the years for Clonmel. We continue to work with them for all other town activities, initiatives and events into the future.

"To each of these organisations who have come to the table this year, we are truly grateful and we hope that Christmas 2022 in Clonmel will be the best yet.

"We also hope that we can continue to work with you all and with others into the future to bring together an ongoing plan so that we can all enjoy Christmas in Clonmel every year."

The District Administrator called on everyone to please support Clonmel's town centre and its businesses in the lead-up to this Christmas, and to shop local.

She said that more details would emerge soon on several significant events that are planned for December, including Santa's visit to Clonmel on Saturday December 3.
