The late Maura Wall
The sudden passing of the late Maura Wall, nee Nolan, Collins Park, Thurles and formerly Turtulla, occasioned widespread sadness and regret in Thurles and much wider afield.
A well known and very popular lady, Maura worked for many years in Sammon’s pharmacy in Liberty Square, Thurles where her kind and gentle way with customers endeared her to all who frequented the business.
Maura passed away very unexpectedly in the wonderful care of the staff of Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel and when word of her passing became known, it sent shockwaves throughout the community.
Together with her sister Sheila, she was a well known face about Thurles - a lady who always had a smile and a word for those with whom she came in contact.
She loved to socialise and her regular trips to Liberty Square brought her into contact with many people. She delighted in their company and was very at ease discussing the affairs of the day, and especially tracing and chatting about times past.
Predeceased by her husband Denis, brothers Sean, Stephen and Mattie, Maura’s passing is deeply regretted by her daughter Maria, son John, both of whom are living in the UK, her sister Sheila, grandchildren, nephews, nieces (especially Rachel), brothers-in-law Tony, Aidan and Michael, sisters-in-law Helen, Pattie, Bridget and Esther, cousins, former colleagues in Sammon’s Chemist, good neighbours and many friends.
Her Requiem Mass in the Cathedral of the Assumption, celebrated by Rev Fr Vincent Stapleton, was as Maura would have wished - straight forward, simple and with an Irish music influence as provided by her cousin Paul Byrne.
People came from all over to pay their final respects to a lady who had endured much in life, but who never lost her spark, her enthusiasm, her strength, or her ability to find humour in most situations. She was the epitome of self deprecating and had a great laugh to go along with her big smile.
A lady of deep faith and devotion to Our Lady, may she rest peacefully in the Heaven she believed in.
