The sudden and unexpected death of well known and much liked local man Paul Galvin, Tooreen, Bohernamona Road has occasioned much sadness in the Cathedral Town and the surrounding parishes.
Coming so close to Christmas, Paul's passing is ever more sad and is a crushing blow to his devoted wife Helen, his sons Michael, Anthony and Paudie, his daughters Helena, Tammy and Norma, his eighteen grandchildren, his brothers Matt and Tom and the extended family.
Paul was a real family man and he delighted in the company of his family - especially the grandchildren when they came along. He would constantly speak of them and loved to relate tales of how they were doing and what they were up to. That roguish smile and glint in the eye would emerge as he glowed enthusiastically about their exploits - he was as proud as punch, of that there was no doubt.
Of course Paul in recent times, accompanied his wife Helen as Sacristan in St Joseph and St Brigid's Church, Bóthar na Naomh, Thurles. There, with great devotion and dedication, they oversaw the running of the Church and did so with a reverence and respect which endeared them to the many priests who crossed their paths, and to the choirs, readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Ministers of the Word, Altar servers, congregations and all associated with the Bóthar na Naomh community.
The many ceremonies which took place in the church were planned to perfection and carried off with great reverence thanks to the assistance of Paul and Helen - Paul's loss to the church will be unbearable.
But, he will return to St Joseph and St Brigid's one more time on Sunday morning when he wil be front and centre of a special celebration of his life - his Requiem Mass. His Remains will arrive at St Joseph & St Brigid Church on Sunday at 9.30am for Requiem Mass at 10am. Burial afterwards will be in Holycross Abbey cemetery. Pauls will repose in Hugh Ryan's Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles on Saturday from 5pm to 7pm where a large attendance is expected to come to pay their final respects to a man who was known to very many.
Predeceased by his baby daughter Anna-Kate, parents Michael and Bridget (Galbertstown, Holycross), brothers Matt and Tom. Deeply regretted by his heartbroken family; devoted wife Helen, sons Michael, Anthony and Paudie, daughters Helena, Tammy and Norma, 18 cherished grandchildren, daughters-in-law Monica, Sarah and Laura, sons-in-law Frank, Ronan and P.J., brother Michael, sisters Mary and Anne-Marie, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, Bothar na Naomh Church community, neighbours and many friends.
May He Rest In Peace.
