As part of the GAA/GPA contact-hours policy recently agreed, it was stipulated that a minimum of six weeks’ pre-season training would take place before any competitive games would take place.
Challenge matches are considered competitive by the Association.
Tipperary's season begins officially on Tuesday January 3 when they take on Waterford in the Munster League in Dungarvan.
The National Hurling League begins on Saturday February 4 when Tipp entertain Laois at FBD Semple Stadium.
