Collisions resulting in serious injury up 18% in Tipperary

Collisions resulting in serious injury up 18% in Tipperary

Collisions resulting in serious injury are up 18% this period.

That is according to the Chief Superintendent’s presentation at the December meeting of the Tipperary Joint Policing Committee.

There was no change in fatal collisions, with eight this year and eight in the same period of 2021. All statistics were correct as of December 1, 2022.

Between January and October this year, there was a decrease of 34% in people driving and using mobile phones.

But there was an increase of 28% in people caught driving without a seatbelt. Chief Supt Colm O’Sullivan said he was glad to see the reduction in driving while using mobile phones. However, he said he was concerned about the increase in seatbelt non-compliance.

The report also showed 3,421 checkpoints, an increase of 38%Those found to be driving while intoxicated were up 3%. But drug driving offences were down 19%.

Speeding was also down 20% Chief Supt O’Sullivan said most motorist drive at an appropriate speed.

However, he said a significant amount of collisions are due to speeding. He asked drivers to consider the road conditions and their skill levels when using the roads.
