Man due in court over attacks on police officers in Londonderry

A man is set to face an attempted murder charge following assaults on police officers in Londonderry.

Four police officers and a custody detention officer were assaulted on Thursday morning in the Collon Lane area.

The 21-year-old has been charged with a number of offences which include attempted murder, wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, assault on police and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He is due to appear at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

The police spokesperson added: “As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”

On Friday morning, Connlan Boyle, 20, from Rosskeen Park, Derry, appeared before the city’s magistrates’ court charged with three counts of assault on police in relation to the same incident.

He was remanded into custody.
