Man in 90s dies following Co Down road crash

A pedestrian in his 90s has died after he was hit by a car in Co Down.

The victim who died in the incident in Rathfriland on Saturday has been named by police as 93-year-old Patrick Joseph Brady, known as Patsy, from the Barnmeen area.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Shortly after 10.45pm, we received a report of a collision involving a silver Toyota Avensis and a pedestrian on the Newry Road.

“Our officers attended alongside emergency service partners, however the pedestrian was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.”

It is not believed that the driver of the Toyota sustained serious injury.

The Newry Road was closed overnight but has since reopened.

The spokesperson added: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with our investigation, to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1587 20/12/25.”
