PSNI investigate County Armagh blaze tackled by 50 firefighters overnight

Police in Northern Ireland are investigating a fire in County Armagh which was tackled by more than 50 firefighters overnight.

Crews from Counties Armagh, Tyrone and Down were called to the incident in the village of in Milford in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In a statement on Saturday afternoon the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said 25 firefighters remain at the scene but they “expect to scale the incident down further over the next few hours”.

The PSNI say they are investigating the fire which broke out at a commercial premises on Ballyards Road.

Chief Inspector John Keers said the NIFRS remain at the scene and “enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances”.

He appealed to anyone with information to contact the force.

The NIFRS said they were alerted to the blaze at 3.45am and it was attended by crews from Armagh, Keady, Portadown, Banbridge, Dungannon, Newtownhamilton, Lisburn, and a water tanker from Pomeroy was brought in to help keep it under control.

Local residents have been advised to keep windows and doors closed and members of the public are asked to avoid the area to help firefighters focus on the incident.

A spokesperson for the NIFRS said: “We would like to thank the public for their patience whilst we dealt with the incident.”
