Large number of houses left vacant in one Offaly town

A large number of houses are being left vacant in one Offaly town

Up to 60 dwellings are vacant in Edenderry a local councillor has claimed.

Cllr Noel Cribbin, who was welcoming the Government's new “Town Centre First” initiative at the recent meeting of Edenderry Municipal District, said he had carried out a survey in the north Offaly town over the Christmas period.

He stressed these buildings were very valuable in light of the number of people on the housing waiting list in the area.

Sharon Kennedy, Area Manager, said bringing such buildings back into use would not alone provide housing for people but would increase footfall in the town centre
