THERE was a festive atmosphere in Esker Hills Golf Club and later in Shane Lowry's new Tulamore venture, the Old Warehouse, as former and current Offaly hurling and football stars competed in their annual golf match.

Offaly heroes from the 1970s, '80s and '90s lined out for the Offaly Football and Hurling Golf Societies as they competed for the Liam Currums Cup – the cup was named for the Offaly dual legend who won All-Ireland senior hurling and football titles in 1981 and 1982.

Currums made the long trip from Donegal to compete as the teams went out on a shot gun start on the Tuesday morning. In a closely contested outing, the hurlers retained the Liam Currums Cup but this time by a narrower margin of five points.
