Driving ban for motorist in Midlands who had unrestrained child in vehicle

A man has been disqualified from driving for having an unrestrained child in his vehicle.

Paul James Ward, 34, of 6 Castle Avenue, Borris-in-Ossory wasn’t in court where he was accused of having a child unrestrained in his vehicle on the Edenderry Road in Portarlington on May 25 last.

A Garda told the court she was at a checkpoint on the Edenderry Road in Portarlington when a Hilux Jeep pulled off into an estate on the date in question. When she investigated, she discovered a child unrestrained in the back of the jeep. A fine was issued but never paid.

The court heard the accused had 26 previous convictions, 22 of which were for road traffic offences.

Judge Andrew Cody fined the driver €200 and banned him from driving for six months.
