Tidy Towns Pride of Place Awards presented in Offaly town

A BIG night for the community of Birr was held in Dooly's Hotel recently when the winners of the 2022 Birr Tidy Towns Pride of Place Awards were announced. The competition was proudly sponsored by Athenry Credit Union Birr Branch.

There was a total of 10 categories awarded in the Pride of Place competition, from the best kept small garden, shop front (Golden Brush Award), hospitality award to the best kept large estate. New categories were also introduced this year, Biodiversity and Sustainability. Special awards were also handed out to Birr Tidy Town partners and finally a Local Hero award.

This year was another good year for Birr Tidy Towns in the annual National Tidy Towns Competition. Birr retained their Silver medal for the third year in a row, gaining 10 marks this year and only five marks from Gold. Birr Tidy Towns thanked all their sponsors, the local community groups and the local authorities for their continued support. The community of Birr were acknowledged for keeping their businesses, houses, streets and estates neat and tidy.

Finally the members of Birr Tidy Towns, including Junior Tidy Town members, were thanked for all their hard work. It was said that success doesn't happen overnight. Years of hard work and planning for each of the eight categories in the National Tidy Towns Competition takes up a lot of time in the Winter months before executing in the Summer months.

All deceased members of Birr TidyTowns were also remembered with a minute's silence.
