Local Ramblers group are back in action once again

Rambling groups are looking forward to getting out walking again.

Kilcormac Ramblers had their walking gear all set as the New Year began, this after two years of lockdown. They set off from the GAA field and once again walked the street and roads around Kilcormac and out to Dan & Mollys in Ballyboy for treats raffle and entertainment. There was a sizeable turn out of walkers. The money collected on route, the raffle and donations amounted to €1,350,00 for Offaly Hospice, which was presented to Mary Murphy on Thursday night.

Thanks must go to all who made the day possible. Chairman Seamus Barron who controlled traffic on the way. Vera Hayden and family, Molly Boland and family. Moira Carroll, Moira Bracken, Rose Mulrooney, Agnes Gorman and Maggie Lynch.

Many thanks to Martyns Pharmacy, the Fitzgerald Family, Curraghmelia, Blueball and any other contribution given to the club.

As The Ramblers wish to progress during the year with walks outings and weekends away, they are concerned that insurance is a must in this day and age.

Membership is now due for 2023 at €15, payable to Vera Hayden or Rose Mulrooney.

The entertainment committee of Vera Hayden, Mary Feighery and Seamus Barron are plotting plans for late April or May on a weekend away.

The Ramblers President Denis O’Driscoll and Paddy Heaney, Vice chairman, passed away during the lockdown period. Denis was one of the pioneers of the Kilcormac Ramblers Club in 1994 and Paddy Heaney was their first guide on their first walk in Cadamstown. Sympathy was expressed to their families and friends on their loss and sympathies was also conveyed to all members during that period.
