Local man appointed as Golf Pro at Offaly golf shop

BIRR Golf Shop & Driving Range, founded in 1993, is the leader in custom fitting technology and services available across Ireland since opening its doors.

Located in the heart of the midlands, with a 10-bay flood-lit range, its driving range offers 364 days of uninterrupted practice facilities together with a fully stocked pro shop. It was the first to offer Trackman services in Ireland and, with the more recent addition of SAM Putt Lab in recent years, constantly strives to offer the best customer experience for golfers of all levels.

Birr Golf Shop & Driving Range is delighted to announce the addition of PGA Golf Pro Eric Byrne to its team. In Eric’s own words “growing up in Birr Golf Club and playing every day during the summer holidays is where my journey to becoming a PGA Teaching Professional began”.

Eric’s golfing career originated with lessons from former Birr based PGA Pros, Kevin McGrath, Bart O’Brien and Bobby King, and progressed to coaching and shadowing top level coaches such as Peter Morgan, Eoin Gibbons, Cormac Hennessy and Noel Fox to name but a few. Mentors of this calibre, whilst initially helping Eric to develop and improve as a player, ultimately facilitated his ability to develop golfers of all levels, from beginners to aspiring tour players.

Since qualifying in 2021, Eric has been involved in developing coaching programmes in Elm Park Golf Club, Dublin, encouraging new juniors to participate in the sport and helping improve the Elite Junior Squad. On his return to Birr, what excites Eric most is the future development of the Junior Section in Birr Golf Club, in tandem with assisting golfers throughout the Midlands improve their game.
