Students at Oaklands Community College, Edenderry are currently fundraising in support of Hooves4Hospice.
In addition to fundraising they are availing of the opportunities it provides to raise awareness of the need there is for a Regional Hospice in the Midlands and the benefits to young people of engaging in physical exercise.
The project recently organised a sponsored walk/run at Mount Lucas wind farm. On the day three large busloads of students, from transition and 5th year classes, made the journey from Edenderry to Mount Lucas and took part in the fundraiser. Some ran and others walked the course.
All who took part demonstrated remarkable levels of fitness and admirable interest in getting back to resume their school work. The proceeds from the event along with the proceeds from other fundraising events will be donated to the Hooves4Hospice project.
Addressing the students who took part in the Mount Lucas event, project chairperson, Pat Lalor, praised the students initiative and their commitment to undertaking the work involved.
He mentioned that a very satisfying feature of the Hooves4Hospice project is the great support it is receiving from young people many of whom are fundraising and even rearing animals for the project. “ The support of your generation”, he said, “is inspiring.”
