Schools compete in Offaly's answer to 'Dragon's Den'

Killina captured the top prize in 'Face the Phoenix'

Tullamore Credit Union Ltd held the Face the Phoenix live final recently in the Esker Arts Centre Tullamore.

This is the credit union’s version of Dragon’s Den. Every year, we invite students from the Transition Year classes of the local secondary schools in the area to go head to head and showcase their mini company ideas.

This year’s competition saw entries from Tullamore College, Mercy Secondary School Kilbeggan and Killina Secondary School.

The live final had three schools represented: Ann & Dan and Crú Capaill from Killina Secondary School. Pierces Pyrography, Christmas Trees, Edu ball and Brosna Agri Crafts from Mercy Secondary School Kilbeggan.

Representing Tullamore College were Mick Kellys Slurry Tank, Ace Bags, Charms to Cherish. Each group appeared onstage, made their presentation, and answered questions from the judges.

The Judges on the day were Paul Shaw CEO Tullamore Credit Union, Caroline Collins Murphy Deputy CEO Tullamore Credit Union, and Peter Hensey Board Director Tullamore Credit Union. O

ne of the judges quoted that it was very difficult to pick a winner as all the students showed very high standards and all the products were of an excellent quality.

The winner on the day was Niall Kelly and Morgan Bennett Crú Capaill representing Killina Secondary School.

A big congratulations to all the students who took part and their teachers who assisted with the competition this year.
