A woman in her forties has been arrested after almost €30,000 worth of cash was seized during a planned search of two houses in Longford town yesterday.
The Longford Leader is reporting that officers from the Roscommon/Longford Divisional Drugs Unit discovered the five figure sum during searches which were carried out along the St Michael's Road area of Longford town at lunchtime on Wednesday.
The searches were the latest in a series of recent anti-crime measures carried out under the auspices of Operation Tara, targeting the sale as well as supply of controlled drugs and the proceeds of crime.
"Gardaí seized cash to the value of almost €29,000 and arrested one person during the course of searches conducted as part of Operation Tara in Longford town on Wednesday 26th April 2023," said a garda spokesperson.
"At approximately 1pm, Gardaí from the Roscommon/Longford Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a search of two properties on Saint Michael's Road in Longford town.
"During the course of these searches, cash of various denominations with a total Euro value of €28,931 was seized."
A woman in her 40s, who is from Longford town was arrested and later taken to Roscommon garda station where she was questioned for a number of hours under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
She was later released without charge with a file now expected to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to determine the next course of the investigation.
"A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda Station in Roscommon under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984," added the spokesperson.
"She has since been released without charge pending file to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigations are ongoing."
