Midlands Under 13 East League play-off
Killeigh... 1
Abbeyleix Athletic... 1
(AET, Killeigh win 5-4 on penalties)
Killeigh went the season unbeaten when they emerged victorious after a penalty shoot-out in the play-off for the league.
As is the case all season there was nothing between the two sides. Killeigh went 1-0 up after 20 minutes with a goal from Mark Dunne after great work from Hubert Starzykiewicz and Adam Kehoe.
Abbeyleix came out firing in the second half and won a penalty. Billy Crampton in goals for Killeigh made a super save from the spot kick.
Abbeyleix pressure eventually told and they got an equalising goal. The game then went to extra time which ended up a cagey affair with both teams having chances to win it.
Ultimately it went to a penalty shoot-out. Both teams scored four each before Abbeyleix missed their last.
Up stepped Adam Kehoe who cooly slotted home the penalty to win the game and the league for Killeigh. Joyous celebrations ensued for players, coaches and supporters.
This was a super performance from every Killeigh player with a man of the match performance from Darragh Staunton.
After going the whole league campaign unbeaten it was a fitting end to the season for this great group of lads.
