Kennedy Clan with interested spectators at Lackeen Castle, Lorrha in 2019.
IF you’re a Kennedy, or have Kennedy ancestry , then the weekend of July 8th and 9th is a date for your diary. On that weekend Kennedys from across Ireland will be joined by distant cousins from Australia to the United States and countries in between to retrace the steps of their ancestors in North Tipperary.
Local guides and historians will lead them on a tour of the historic village of Lorrha with its many links to the Kennedys of Lower Ormond, then onwards to the well preserved Kennedy tower house of Lackeen Castle.
Sunday’s activities will be based in Kennedy’s Shop and Bar in Rearcross and will include an overview of a comprehensive DNA project being undertaken by Prof. Mark Kennedy, while historian Brian Kennedy will launch his latest book “Our Irish Kennedy DNA root, Hidden in Plain Sight”.
Add in lots of music, chat and tracing and an informative and entertaining weekend is guaranteed for all.
