Age Friendly Roscrea host well attended and informative health talk

Age Friendly Roscrea monthly Tuesday Talks had a visit from Occupational Therapist, Claire Farrell who spoke about bone health and fall prevention at a very well attended session in the Age Friendly headquarters in the former Courthouse.

Claire spoke about the importance of diet and exercise in maintaining good bone health.

Small amounts of regular exercise will keep our muscles strong, improve balance and flexibility.

We can avoid falls by looking around our homes and eliminating any hazards which might cause a fall. Fitting handrails to stairways, grab rails in bathrooms, wearing shoes or slippers with a good grip are all good points to take on board.

Claire will be starting work soon with ICPOP (Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons) which is a service based in Thurles which you can be referred to for assessment by a multi-disciplinary team. Thanks to Clare and her team for an informative discussion.

We also had a visit from Caredoc Staff Nurse, Niamh Ann Flanagan, who was looking for volunteers to take part in a study which looks at how technology can assist people with chronic health conditions monitor their health.

Participants are monitored remotely on a daily basis, and they can discuss their health readings with a nurse every few weeks.
