AS we bid farewell to another fruitful academic year, it is with great joy that we reflect upon the many memorable experiences this year brought to all in Clonlisk National School. From engaging in various initiatives and competitions to fostering a sense of community, it has been a year filled with achievements and memorable experiences.

The school garden proved to be a fertile ground for learning, as our pupils eagerly rolled up their sleeves and discovered the joy of hands-on gardening, Pupils in the junior classes enjoyed informative nature walks in the local area.

Under the guidance of local historians Joe Cleary, John Browne and Mary Kennedy, pupils in the senior classes embarked on a remarkable journey through local history learning all about lime kilns in the Clonlisk area. They delved into the rich tapestry of their community and unlocked stories of the past.

A massive highlight of the school year was a memorable visit from a travelling farm organised by some parents in our school community. The infectious excitement of our pupils was palpable as they interacted with the furry and feathered creatures, fostering a deep appreciation for agriculture and rural life.

These varied experiences have undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the pupils of Clonlisk, igniting their passion for learning and providing them with unforgettable memories to cherish for a lifetime.

The students of Clonlisk National School showcased their talents in the VEX Robotics Competition, demonstrating their creativity and problem-solving skills. This hands-on experience allowed them to explore the world of robotics and engineering, fostering a passion for STEM education. 6th Class reached the knockout stages of the Concern Primary Debates Competition for the first time. Their dedication to research, public speaking and critical thinking paid off, as they impressed the judges with their articulate arguments and strong teamwork. Our pupils successfully participated in the Spelling Bee & Community Games competitions too.

The Student Council played an integral role in organising various events and initiatives throughout the year. From the successful 'Movie & Pyjamas Day' to 'Bring Anything but a School Bag Day', their creativity and leadership was to the forefront throughout the year. A hugely successful and enjoyable Sports Day was also co-ordinated by them, where some exciting water activities were introduced for the first time, creating lasting memories for all.

On the sporting front, Clonlisk National School was a hive of activity with hurling and soccer coaching throughout the year. Teams participated in the Spar FAI Primary School 5-a-side and Cumann na mBunscol football, hurling and camogie competitions.

The sporting highlight of the year came when our talented camogie team triumphed in the Cumann na mBunscol Camogie Final. To celebrate this achievement, we were honoured to have past pupils and current Offaly stars, Jason Sampson, Adrian Cleary and Killian Sampson present the medals to the victorious team. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Shinrone GAA, Shinrone Camogie Club and Ballyskenagh Killavilla GAA for their continuous support of GAA and physical activity in our school.

We were very fortunate this year to have PE expert and doctoral researcher, Mairéad Teehan spearhead a very enjoyable and beneficial 15-week Physical Education Doctoral Research Project focusing on the teaching and learning of dance, gymnastics and outdoor and education activities for all classes. The new playground markings and playground equipment were a huge hit for the junior classes too. To finish off the physical activities for the year, First-Sixth Classes attended a six week block of swimming lessons in Roscrea Leisure Centre.

This year, our students also nurtured and developed their deep appreciation and love for the arts, embracing creativity and self-expression in various forms. One notable highlight was the participation of our students in an eight-week block of music lessons, where they had the opportunity to learn the ukulele. This exciting initiative was part of the Creative Schools Cluster Programme, designed to foster artistic exploration and development.

Drama took centre stage throughout the year, as our talented students displayed their acting abilities in numerous productions both in English and as Gaeilge. From heart-warming plays to thought provoking performances, these productions were a testament to the dedication and creativity of our students.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Parents' Association for their collaboration and support. Working closely together, we were able to implement several initiatives that enriched the school experience for our students. A couple of the many special events organised by the Parents' Association were a delightful visit from the Easter Bunny complete with treats and delicious ice-cream cones for everyone on Sports Day. Buses for various activities and tours throughout the year were also subsidised.

The Parents' Association and Board of Management proved to be an active and vibrant team, taking on various fundraising initiatives. They included a Cake Sale, Christmas Draw, Book Fair, Clothing Collection, the weekly 50/50 Draw and a hugely profitable fundraising effort with Shinrone Tractor Run Committee. In addition, the whole school community participated in a Spinathon held in Obama Plaza, bringing together students, parents and staff for a fun-filled event.

As the school year comes to an end, we celebrate the accomplishments and growth of Clonlisk National School. It has been a year filled with learning, teamwork and a sense of community. We extend our sincere appreciation to all the students, teachers, staff, parents and community members who have contributed to making this year a success. We eagerly look forward to the opportunities and experiences that the coming year will bring.
